More Cute Utah Weddings: Opie Photography!

Posted by blue | Local Vendors, Uncategorized | Wednesday 11 November 2009 11:04 pm

Ok, I must say that I love Opie photography.  Not only is she an awesome photographer but she really gets to know her clients and connects with them.  It actually makes my job a lot easier, because she posts the couples’ story on her blog along with where they booked all the details for their wedding.  I wish I had photographs of this, because Michael proposed in the cutest way.  Opie said this about it on her blog, “Mike likes to draw. He drew a series of pictures that illustrated their sordid affair and had them bound in hardcover as childrens’ book. The last page was him, on one knee, proposing.”  I have to say, Vanessa–he’s a keeper!

My favorite wedding details include:

button bouquet and button boutonniere

cookie buffet (made by mom and aunts, but you could use Dough Girl-gotta give the advertisers their plug!)

my favorite part–The Milk Bar–classic!

Bitchin’ Wedding Party Mix 2009, by Mike on iPod

oh, and as party favors, guests were able to take home cookies and milk!

Love the bouquet!  My sister told me you could buy bags of buttons at the DI in Provo.  She said that whenever clothing is too old to sell they strip the buttons and sell them.  I tried my Dessert Industries in Salt Lake City and they didn’t have any. If anybody knows for sure let me know.  I’m just trying to help!

Budget Photo Booth: DIY Projects for Weddings

Posted by blue | DIY Projects | Wednesday 11 November 2009 10:20 am

Think you can’t afford $2000 for a photo booth?  Well, you don’t need to.  Make your own.  Take some cute fabric–Ikea has some really cute fabrics right now.  And make a frame or drape over a fence.  As you can see these guys just used a frame work of tree branches.  But you could even just tie a string between a couple trees in your back yard.  Or if you are getting married this winter and are having a cultural hall wedding you could tie it from the basketball hoop…you think I’m kidding but I’m totally not!  Have a cute little niece or roommate take the photos with your digital camera.  Send guests their photos when you send out your thank you cards or make the photos themselves into post cards.  I know Knicoles Lab in Salt Lake can print your photos on post cards for you.  It’s a fun way to have great photos at your wedding!

DIY Project: Wood Name Cards

Posted by blue | DIY Projects, inspiration | Saturday 7 November 2009 8:40 am

I loved this craft from Alison Shoffer’s blog.  And it’s so easy to do!  I think I might even steal the idea and do cute gift tags for Christmas presents.  When I see things like this I’m always kinda mad I didn’t think of it first, but hey it’s awesome so who cares right?!

Think Outside the Cake

Posted by blue | Local Vendors | Friday 6 November 2009 8:23 am

MMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm…….cookie dough!  Is the thought every time I pass Dough Girl.  How could you go wrong with gourmet cookie dough?!  Wait I forgot they do actual cookies too.  I, myself, have never made cookies that lasted past the dough stage…ok I have, but it took all the self control I could muster!  Anyway, I love cookies and Dough Girl’s are to die for.  So much for that I would encourage you to forgo your wedding cake and have a cookie cake.  Everybody knows that cookies are better than cake.  I think it’s because you get more sugar and butter per bite, cake has far too much air!  Besides look how cute they are!

And I thought this was just too cute not to post this is what the bride had to say on her blog,

“What happens when a designer opens a cookie shop? Designer cookies. A fellow Salt Lake City designer I know has opened her own cookie shop. They only have cookies and they do them right. It’s called My Dough Girl and fortunately/unfortunately it is located not too far from my work. They have a selection of gourmet cookies of various flavors plus a “dough girl” of the month. I think my favorite is Gabrielle – a chocolate ginger cookie with crystalized ginger in it. But every cookie I have tried there is excellent. I could never reject any of the dough girls.

We’re not cake people, so instead of a wedding cake we wanted to do some kind of dessert that we really like. I think Greg would have gone for cheesecake since that is his favorite, but after bribing him with samples of these cookies, I convinced him that this was the way to go. Tami (the owner of My Dough Girl) worked with me to develop the perfect orange cookie to use in a cookie tower for our reception. It was hard work to go in and sample the test cookies, but somehow I survived. Now that the recipe is decided and I haven’t gone in for more tastings, I’m starting to go through withdrawals. I might need to pop in soon for my cookie fix.”

I just thought Judy was so cute with her explanation of her decision.  Oh, and her whole wedding was adorable, so I’m hoping that I can feature it in the future.

Isn’t she so cute?!

Lovely Lemon, Very Pretty

Posted by blue | inspiration | Thursday 5 November 2009 8:37 am

I’m always a fan of saving money and one way to do that at a wedding it to use fruit instead of flowers. And the lemon is so cute right now. And while they seem like a summer fruit, what with all the lemonade stands and all. They actually are in season year round. Ok, maybe that is stretching it….I just thought they were so cute that I had to do a post about them. I will do some more winter-ee posts for you December brides soon!

Wax Seal: DIY Projects!

Posted by blue | DIY Projects | Wednesday 4 November 2009 10:05 am

I think I have loved the idea of wax seals ever since I was little and watched the Scarlet Pimpernel.  I always thought it was so romantic!   The idea of making your own wax seal for your wedding invitations is so cute.  When I first saw this I was so excited.  The idea was thought up by the geniuses over at Ragehaus.  Check out that link to get a full tutorial on how to make your very own.

Jessica Kettle has a fantastic eye for delicate details.  When a photographer has such a great eye for details they also make you shine as well.  Jessica’s brides are always beautiful and simply elegant.  I love to look through her work and while I was, I saw this lovely backyard wedding.

My favorite inspirations from this wedding are:

Her simple blue fondant cake with fresh flowers. (I love that her wedding cake wasn’t white!)

Homemade candy bar.

Flower clips for her and her bridesmaid’s hair.

Paper or Fabric Flowers

Posted by blue | DIY Projects | Friday 30 October 2009 1:36 pm

So cute and so easy!  Put these cute little flowers on everything from bridesmaids headbands to on your dress.  Also they make great wedding decorations when made out of huge pieces of paper.  Stick two flowers together to make a little puff balls that can hang from the ceiling.  Really the possibilities are endless! hummm maybe I should actually do my own tutorial on the huge puff balls…I just don’t know if you can picture my huge puff ball dream by the items down bellow.  Anyway these ones would be so great on headbands or boutonnieres.

This is a great book, my sister just bought it and is still goggling over it!

here is a tutorial on youtube

Fun With Pumpkins

Posted by blue | DIY Projects, Uncategorized | Thursday 29 October 2009 11:24 am

Maybe it’s a childhood love with Cinderella, but I think pumpkins are so romantic. Organic and so garish in color I can’t help but fall in love with having pumpkins be a cute and affordable way to decorate your wedding.  From name tag holders to a cooler to hold your drinks.  I also love how they cut out the letters to say I heart Tom, the thank you written on the pumpkins and my favorite the arrow telling your friends and family which way to go.  All such great ideas!
