DIY Bird Cake Topper
First of all I have to thank my sister, Julie, for all of you who have stopped by to say hi from her blog. And thanks to all of you for your support! I had no idea my big sis was so popular…I would have never guessed it growing up with her! hee hee. But I have always looked up to her and she has taught me many things. Thanks Julie! utah wedding blog, utah bridal blog that does really cute diy projects for brides in utah!
Here is the post I promised yesterday about how to make a diy bird cake topper. For all of Julie’s friends–I’ll have you know that she wanted birds on her cake. Infact I think she even had birds on her cake. I really can’t remember. I just remember going to store after store looking for them! Married for 12 some odd years and didn’t even know she was setting trends!Utah wedding blog, Utah bridal blog that does really cute diy projects for brides in Utah!
All of my supplies were bought at Dollar Tree. The total cost of this project is right around $3. Pretty impressive!

Here are all the supplies you will need. I bought them all at Dollar Tree. The birds were Christmas Ornaments so they might be a seasonal item.

You will need to make a royal icing. Mine was 2 egg whites to 3 cups powdered sugar and then mix well. I would suggest making it with more sugar so that it is stiffer and isn’t as runny.

Place your wreath on the center of your iced Styrofoam.

I think if I was better at icing this might have been cuter, but I basically just globed on a little pile of icing so that one bird could be up a little higher.

The ornament hanger simply popped out when I pulled on it. Then I put the birds on my icing piles.

Put it on top of your cake.

awesome cake topper. I really think your blog is going to go far because all the over the top wedding stuff is so over done. I think simple and cheap is really whats coming up thanks to the economy. I also think its a good thing.
How absolutely beautiful!! And you make it seem so simple to make, you are one crafty/clever girl. I can see how Julie talks about you two being so alike, you both seem very artistic.
Your sister Julie sent me over here!! what great wedding ideas you have. I love that you are giving people ideas to have a beautiful wedding but letting them know you dont have to break the pocketbook or go in debt to have a nice wedding!!
I’ve bookmarked your site! I am a DIY’er and my daughter will be wedding planning in the next year or so, and this is right up her alley! Thanks for the chance to win scrappy stuff too!

Just found out about your site thanks to your sister Julie, what wonderful ideas, I will be coming back here daily. Thanks for the chance to win some cosmo cricket.
I LOVE all these ideas. I was just browsing through some posts and loved that I can tweak and apply these ideas to my parties and everyday “events”. I’ve already done the marriage thing, but these ideas are going to add the right amount of whimsy to daily activities! Thanks!!
Wow, what fabulous, eco friendly, budget concious ideas!! That cake topper is adorable! I will for sure spread the link around to all my friends getting married! Good luck with everything, and congrats on the new blog!
P.S. Your photos are fantastic!
Great pics and ideas on this blog! (Although I’m kind of freaked out by birds… shuddering…)
I’ve given the link to a couple of friends for ideas too.

I just LOVE this site! Although I’ve already gotten married some 7 years ago (and no plans on doing it again;), all these ideas are just so fun and creative-something you could put your own spin on for other events. Love the bird cake topper too.
I always do what other people tell me to do;) so I got here through your sisters blog. I love reading about wedding ideas even if I don’t need them myself, 16 and a half year tomorrow and still going strong.
Good luck with your blog.

Very cute topper….but I love the button “flower” bouquet! So Creative!
Julie sent me! Wow, what beeyootiful ideas you have.
I have a soft spot in my heart for wedding photographers–my dear Dad was one! It was my job when I was little to help him pore over the 8×10s of brides bedecked in macrame and daisies (hey, it was the early 70s) and help him retouch all the tiny blemishes and spots on the film. Yes, we had to do that back then. I would help him mix the tints to fix them! Thanks for the walk down memory lane! have a great day, and best wishes for Blue Light Photography!
This is precious! I discovered your blog from Julie, but I’m glad I did, as my sister is getting married in July!
What a beautiful (and AFFORDABLE!!!) cake topper! I am already married, but I’ll be back for more inspiration. This site is beautiful and the photography is stunning! Thanks to Julie from CC for the recommendation

A bride has so much to worry about already…I am the one that takes the worry away from her about her cake…and you obviously go a step beyond even that! KUDOS TO YOU!!!! I love this site..and I am book marking it…Just so you know!! LOL…GOOD LUCK on your journey!!
Oh my goodness! Your ideas and photographs are INCREDIBLE!! I’m so glad I was introduced to your site!! Julie rocks, you rock…talented family!!
I am so glad to see all these DIY and less expensive ways to have a beautiful wedding. It has become downright ridiculous how much people spend on these events. Kind of like Christmas, the real reason for the day often gets lost.
Wow! Just a quick look in my free moments and already I find great ‘wedding’ ideas that can be translated to crafts in general (and scrapping w/ cosmo). Beautiful work Becky. . .
