I love this return to an old favorite.  It takes you right back to the days of middle school and first crushes.  Let your guests have a ball with these really cute party favors.  Or bring back your origami days and make them yourself!

Billy and Rachel: Bwright Photography

Posted by blue | Real-Life Weddings | Saturday 19 September 2009 5:44 pm

I wanted to thank Brandon and Brian Write at Bwrite photography for letting me showcase this engagement session.  These photos are some of my favorite engagements I’ve ever seen!  I love the couples style; I’d kill to have all of Rachel’s hats!  The couple was also super inventive and made all their invitations, save the dates and rsvp’s by hand.  Billy designed them and Rachel and her mom helped put them together.  Check it out.

Billy drew this awesome RSVP postcard for his guests.  I love that some guests sent it back colored in.

Rachel and her mom printed, folded and tied all these invitations together.  So worth it!

Billy designed the save the dates.  Rachel cut out all the cards and used a stamp to punch the corners.

DIY Wedding

Posted by blue | Real-Life Weddings | Thursday 17 September 2009 3:00 pm

I can’t stand how much I love this wedding.  Everything was done by the bride and groom and on a minimal budget.  The ceremony was held in the grooms back yard.  And the couple had friends and family take the photos with lomo cameras.  You can find out more about the little toy cameras here http://lomography.com/.  I love the idea of doing a camp theme to a wedding.  And even if you didn’t have such a beautiful back yard you could rent an actual campsite, they can range from $10-$50 depending on location.  Lincoln beach in Utah County would be perfect or even up any of the Canyons.  They used beer cans and mason jars as vases.  And collected vintage plates, mugs and tea cups from local thrift shops.  I loved that they used the families canoe to hold drinks.  Victoria and Fritz are such pros doing DIY Weddings they are turning their wedding blog, http://www.frickyforever.com/, into a instruction blog to help other couples.  I will have a link posted on the side bar when they get it up and running.   I want to thank Victoria on being so prompt getting back to me and letting me feature her wedding.

DIY Recycled Cards

Posted by blue | DIY Projects | Monday 14 September 2009 3:50 pm

I love the idea of saving money and helping the environment.  I used a paper making kit my mom bought me forever ago.  You can buy the kit at Micheals or Roberts Craft stores and it sells for around $40.  But you could also make your own with a picture frame staple gun and a screen….or I suppose you could use a window screen, but don’t tell your landlord I told you to!

/

I think every wedding should have tons of cute little details like these.

/

Ok, the stuff you’ll need; blender, frame with screen, paper strips and a clear dye marker.  You should be able to pick up the paper kit and the dye marker at any local craft store.  I bought my marker at the BYU bookstore for $2.50.

/

Put your paper in the blender ad twice as much water and make a pulp.  Have fun experimenting with different papers and adding in grass to make the paper more earthy.

/

Pour your pulp onto your screen.  Try to get it as even as possible.  Then use a second screen and squeeze out the extra water.  Lay flat and let dry….or if your inpatient like me put the paper between a towel and iron it.  Note that grass can scorch if it gets too hot.

/

Design your cards and flip the text so that it is backwards.  Then make a photo copy.  The ink used in copy machines transfers best with the dye marker.

Rub on the backside of paper until the image comes off onto the card.

I thought these little green wonders would be perfect to announce your engagement, save the date, shower cards, or name cards.

Let’s Make Something Beautiful

Posted by blue | DIY Projects, Local Vendors, Real-Life Weddings | Saturday 12 September 2009 2:51 pm

It’s my opinion that everybody deserves a beautiful wedding.  It’s the day that little girls dream of since–I don’t know, conception?  And it should be full of little details that make you smile.  And while I think everybody realizes that not all their wildest dreams will materialize on their wedding day, I don’ think it should be your budget holding you back.  No, I’m not saying that one should spend a fortune or go into debt.  But with a little ingenuity and elbow grease I plan to show you ways to obtain those wedding dreams.  The weddings I showcase will be real life weddings done on daddy’s (ummm tight?) budget–or heaven forbid yours!  And the blog will be filled with DIY’s that give you a sophisticated look for less.  Come on girls let’s share those bright ideas….because all weddings could use a little blue.
