I heart candy canes!

Posted by blue | DIY Projects | Wednesday 2 December 2009 9:58 pm

I thought this craft was so cute and easy for favors.  All you do is buy mini candy canes and melt them slightly in the oven and then place a sucker stick in the middle.  They would make really cute party favors for your guests.  Check out the complete instructions on this blog.

DIY Bird Cake Topper

Posted by blue | DIY Projects | Wednesday 18 November 2009 1:56 pm

First of all I have to thank my sister, Julie, for all of you who have stopped by to say hi from her blog.  And thanks to all of you for your support! I had no idea my big sis was so popular…I would have never guessed it growing up with her! hee hee.   But I have always looked up to her and she has taught me many things.  Thanks Julie! utah wedding blog, utah bridal blog that does really cute diy projects for brides in utah!

Here is the post I promised yesterday about how to make a diy bird cake topper.  For all of Julie’s friends–I’ll have you know that she wanted birds on her cake.  Infact I think she even had birds on her cake.  I really can’t remember.  I just remember going to store after store looking for them!  Married for 12 some odd years  and didn’t even know she was setting trends!Utah wedding blog, Utah bridal blog that does really cute diy projects for brides in Utah!

All of my supplies were bought at Dollar Tree.  The total cost of this project is right around $3.  Pretty impressive!

Here are all the supplies you will need.  I bought them all at Dollar Tree.  The birds were Christmas Ornaments so they might be a seasonal item.

You will need to make a royal icing.  Mine was 2 egg whites to 3 cups powdered sugar and then mix well.  I would suggest making it with more sugar so that it is stiffer and isn’t as runny.

Place your wreath on the center of your iced Styrofoam.

I think if I was better at icing this might have been cuter, but I basically just globed on a little pile of icing so that one bird could be up a little higher.

The ornament hanger simply popped out when I pulled on it.  Then I put the birds on my icing piles.

Put it on top of your cake.

Budget Photo Booth: DIY Projects for Weddings

Posted by blue | DIY Projects | Wednesday 11 November 2009 10:20 am

Think you can’t afford $2000 for a photo booth?  Well, you don’t need to.  Make your own.  Take some cute fabric–Ikea has some really cute fabrics right now.  And make a frame or drape over a fence.  As you can see these guys just used a frame work of tree branches.  But you could even just tie a string between a couple trees in your back yard.  Or if you are getting married this winter and are having a cultural hall wedding you could tie it from the basketball hoop…you think I’m kidding but I’m totally not!  Have a cute little niece or roommate take the photos with your digital camera.  Send guests their photos when you send out your thank you cards or make the photos themselves into post cards.  I know Knicoles Lab in Salt Lake can print your photos on post cards for you.  It’s a fun way to have great photos at your wedding!

DIY Project: Wood Name Cards

Posted by blue | DIY Projects, inspiration | Saturday 7 November 2009 8:40 am

I loved this craft from Alison Shoffer’s blog.  And it’s so easy to do!  I think I might even steal the idea and do cute gift tags for Christmas presents.  When I see things like this I’m always kinda mad I didn’t think of it first, but hey it’s awesome so who cares right?!

Wax Seal: DIY Projects!

Posted by blue | DIY Projects | Wednesday 4 November 2009 10:05 am

I think I have loved the idea of wax seals ever since I was little and watched the Scarlet Pimpernel.  I always thought it was so romantic!   The idea of making your own wax seal for your wedding invitations is so cute.  When I first saw this I was so excited.  The idea was thought up by the geniuses over at Ragehaus.  Check out that link to get a full tutorial on how to make your very own.

Paper or Fabric Flowers

Posted by blue | DIY Projects | Friday 30 October 2009 1:36 pm

So cute and so easy!  Put these cute little flowers on everything from bridesmaids headbands to on your dress.  Also they make great wedding decorations when made out of huge pieces of paper.  Stick two flowers together to make a little puff balls that can hang from the ceiling.  Really the possibilities are endless! hummm maybe I should actually do my own tutorial on the huge puff balls…I just don’t know if you can picture my huge puff ball dream by the items down bellow.  Anyway these ones would be so great on headbands or boutonnieres.

This is a great book, my sister just bought it and is still goggling over it!

here is a tutorial on youtube

Fun With Pumpkins

Posted by blue | DIY Projects, Uncategorized | Thursday 29 October 2009 11:24 am

Maybe it’s a childhood love with Cinderella, but I think pumpkins are so romantic. Organic and so garish in color I can’t help but fall in love with having pumpkins be a cute and affordable way to decorate your wedding.  From name tag holders to a cooler to hold your drinks.  I also love how they cut out the letters to say I heart Tom, the thank you written on the pumpkins and my favorite the arrow telling your friends and family which way to go.  All such great ideas!

So maybe I should have waited to post this one in summer, but when I saw these on Tec Petaja’s photo blog I loved the idea.  There are ton’s of places online that let you customize your own fan.  The prices I saw ranged from 30-50 cents for each fan.

DIY Cake Stands

Posted by blue | DIY Projects | Monday 19 October 2009 11:08 am

My mom had this idea to use old vases, candle sticks, bowls, platters, and plates to make cake stands.  We use double stick foam tape to hold the plates to the vases.  It worked really well, but did leave some stick behind.  We used gue be gone to remove it.  My mom, who is amazingly talented at crafts, said that flourist tacky would work really well also, and wouldn’t leave the gue behind.  I loved the idea of using my moms collection of antique glass for a vintage theme.  But you could also use any glass you could find.  I’m actually suprised by all the cute glass sundae dishes, wine glasses and plates you can find at dollar tree.  And of coarse thirft stores are full of fun glass dishes.  Take a look at how cute it turned out.

I think this thought bubble is awesome!

Posted by blue | DIY Projects | Saturday 10 October 2009 9:12 pm

I have always heard that you could buy chalk board paint, but I never knew what I would do with it.  When I saw this idea I thought it was so much fun.  All it is is a piece of foam core board that the bride cut out and painted with chalk board paint.  The couple then invited guests to write advice/something funny and take a photo.  I wish I would have thought of this for my wedding!is is a totally awesome blog for brides located in Uah.  We do designer weddings for less and come up with cool ideas that you can make yourself for youwedding.
